Care from the Comfort of Home: TRS Virtual Health

The Pulse, March 2021

TRS Virtual Health offers participants easy access to providers of all types – whether it’s a check-in with your primary care provider (PCP), discussing care options with a specialist, or seeking mental health care from a licensed practitioner – you’re covered with your plan.

Right now, all virtual health visits are free to help keep our participants safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

TRS-ActiveCare and TRS-Care Standard

With Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), TRS-ActiveCare participants’ virtual health choices are powered by Teladoc and RediMD. TRS-Care Standard is powered by Teladoc. These services allow you to access convenient, quality health care without having to travel to a doctor’s office.

The main differences are that Teladoc provides mental health care services and their physicians can prescribe medication.

You can even have prescription medication sent right to your home, when medically necessary.

You can download the Teladoc mobile app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store or call 1-855-Teladoc (835-2362) for help from a representative.

TRS-Care Medicare Advantage

With UnitedHealthcare, TRS-Care Medicare Advantage participants have access to Virtual Doctor Visits with network practitioners from Doctor on Demand and American Well (AmWell). You can chat with a medical professional from any computer, tablet or smartphone anytime, day or night, about medical questions, diagnoses and prescriptions. If your PCP uses virtual health, this is a great option for quick check-ins.

If any everyday health issue comes up, NurseLine (pdf) provides participants with access to registered nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These registered nurses can help you learn about conditions and treatments, choose a health care provider, learn about healthy living and more.

Participants also have access to Virtual Behavioral Health Visits (pdf) for support with addiction, depression, anxiety, and more.
