MyTRS
MyTRS is the online access portion of the TRS website. After you establish a user ID and password of your own choosing, you will have access to a number of self-service options. Use MyTRS to plan for retirement, communicate with TRS, keep track of your personal account, and more. We will continue to add new features to MyTRS in the future.
After creating an account, you can log in with your user ID and password to:
- Update your contact information (mailing address, email address and telephone number).
- View your years of service and top 5 salaries.
- Update your preferred method of communication.
- Use a benefit calculator to estimate retirement or death benefits using data on file with TRS.
- Request a retirement estimate.
- Apply for retirement.
- Apply for a refund.
- View documents electronically, such as your annual statement, in the Document Center.
- Send and receive secure messages.
- Schedule appointments (office visits, benefit presentations and group retirement counseling sessions).
- View payment history (if you’ve refunded your account).
- View tax forms (if you’ve refunded your account).
- Update account security settings (password, security questions, multi-factor authentication).
As an annuitant, you can:
- Update your contact information (mailing address, email address and telephone number).
- Update your preferred method of communication.
- View documents electronically, such as your most recent 1099-R, in the Document Center.
- Change your income tax withholding preference.
- View a summary of your current annuity payments, your monthly annuity payment amount and deductions.
- View a summary of health benefit premiums paid by deduction from your TRS annuities in the prior two years.
- Send and receive secure messages.
- Schedule appointments.
- Update account security settings (password, security questions, multi-factor authentication).
Using MyTRS
Review the Register for MyTRS page and follow the instructions for registering.
If you are no longer receiving an annuity payment you cannot create a MyTRS account.
If you are an active member or currently receiving an annuity, but you are unable to register for MyTRS, please call 1-800-223-8778.
A user ID for MyTRS must meet the following criteria:
- Have at least 8 characters and no more than 50 characters
- Cannot contain 7 or more numbers total
- Cannot contain a pattern of exactly 3 numbers, followed by 2 letters, followed by 3 numbers (e.g. 123ab456)
- Cannot contain a space
A password for MyTRS must meet the following criteria:
- Have at least 8 characters and no more than 32 characters
- Have at least 1 lower case letter
- Have at least 1 upper case letter
- Have at least 1 number (0 – 9)
- Have at least 1 special character (!@#$%^&*-=)
- Cannot reuse any of your last 12 passwords
Just click on the MyTRS button that appears at the top of TRS website pages. Then, on the welcome screen for MyTRS, enter your user ID and your password, and then click the "Log in" button.

MyTRS will work with all current versions of major browsers. However, some functionality, such as co-browsing with a TRS Benefit Counselor, is limited to Chrome and Edge.
In order to download documents and forms, you need to allow pop-ups from MyTRS. Please configure your browser to allow pop-ups from "mytrs.texas.gov" as a trusted site.
Privacy and Security for MyTRS
TRS uses industry best practices to ensure that unauthorized individuals cannot view your personal information. However, anyone who knows your user ID and your password can access your personal information. That's why you need to keep your password private. And, to prevent others from viewing your personal information, be sure to click "Log Out" at the top right of your screen before leaving your computer.
As part of the account activation process, each user will be required to go through an ID proofing process to ensure the security and safety of your account.
Yes, to protect your information, please remember to click "Log Out" at the top right of your screen when you have completed your MyTRS session. If you forget to log out and leave your browser open, anyone using your computer can access your information until the session times out. If no browser activity is detected for 15 minutes, MyTRS automatically logs you out. For more information, please refer to the TRS Privacy Statement.
TRS does not give or sell member email addresses to others to use for marketing, sales or research. TRS does not give out email addresses unless we are required by law to do so, for example, by subpoena or other court order. For more information, please refer to the TRS Privacy Statement.

Income Tax Withholding Preference
Log in to MyTRS. Hover over the Payments tab and click on Tax Withholding in the drop-down menu.
MyTRS has a withholding calculator with your current annuity and income tax withholding preference. You can modify your marital status, the number of exemptions, and other deductions to estimate changes in your withholding.
Retirement Estimates & TRS’ Benefit Calculator
MyTRS allows you to request a service or disability retirement estimate. If you do not want to request an estimate, you can also use the TRS Benefit Calculator to estimate your potential service retirement benefits. The calculator will automatically import current data from your TRS records such as your tier, years of service credit and highest annual salaries. You can change that data if you want to explore different scenarios.
Annual Statements
Annual statements are generated in the fall of each year and are available in your MyTRS Document Center.
