Learn About Your Coverage - TRS-Care Standard

TRS-Care Standard provides health coverage for retirees without Medicare. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas administers the plan’s medical benefits and Express Scripts administers the prescription drug benefits.

The plan year is from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. Deductibles and maximum out-of-pocket amounts reset each year on Jan. 1.

And don’t forget that you’ve paid into TRS-Care your entire career – you earned this benefit!

  • Freedom to choose any doctor in BCBSTX’s broad, nationwide network without a referral
  • No cost for in-network preventive care such as cancer screenings, immunizations, and annual wellness checkups
  • Access to Personal Health Guides, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • No cost for certain preventive generic prescription drugs
  • Prescription mail order services and specialty drug coverage through Express Scripts
  • Telehealth visits through Teladoc and RediMD
  • Benefits such as the 24/7 Nurseline, discounted fitness memberships, one-on-one wellness coaching, and mental health resources

How the Plan Works

  • You pay the full cost of your medical and prescription costs until you or your family meet the deductible.
  • Once you meet your deductible, the plan pays 80% coinsurance for your eligible in-network expenses and you pay 20%.
  • A person’s expenses won’t exceed the individual maximum out-of-pocket, even if they’re on a family plan.
  • Out-of-pocket expenses for the entire family won’t exceed the family limit.
