TRS ANNOUNCES “MY SUPERHERO TEACHER” ART CONTEST SEPT. 1 - OCT. 1
AUSTIN – Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s my teacher! The Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is excited to announce the “My Superhero Teacher” statewide art contest for all K-5 students enrolled at reporting entities such as public and charter schools.
“All of us take great pride in our teachers and would like to reflect that in this year’s art contest,” said Brian Guthrie, TRS Executive Director. “We look forward to seeing how Texas elementary school students will represent their teachers as the superheroes they are every day.”
Students in grades K-5 are invited to submit artwork depicting their superhero teachers in original pieces. Artwork must be created using manual 2D mediums such as paints, watercolors, pencils, and crayons. Please include your child’s name and school on the back of each submission.
All entries must have a signed parental permission form with each entry. The contest begins Sept. 1. Submissions must be postmarked or emailed by 5 p.m. on Oct. 1. TRS will hold a Facebook contest Oct. 5 – 16 to choose this year’s winning artwork. Teachers, school districts and local media will be notified of the winning piece. The finalist will be invited to Austin to be recognized by our board of trustees.
“I’m going to get markers and I’m going to get crayons and I’m going to draw my music teacher using her keyboard to control things like erasers and cars,” said contestant Alexis Hawbecker, 8.
The contest winner’s artwork will be on the cover of our 2015 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This report is viewed annually by thousands of TRS members, state officials and other interested parties across Texas. Artwork will also be placed online and in other TRS publications.
Please submit artwork and direct contest questions to mailto:amber.conrad@trs.texas.gov or by mail c/o Amber Conrad, 1000 Red River St. Austin, Texas 78701. For more information, please visit the contest page of the TRS Facebook site at www.facebook.com/TeacherRetirementSystemofTexas.
