TRS-Care is the retiree group health benefits program. It consists of two plans: TRS-Care Standard for non-Medicare retirees and TRS-Care Medicare Advantage for Medicare retirees.
In general, a service retiree must have at least 10 years of service credit in TRS at the time of retirement. There are two other requirements you must meet, which are listed in the TRS-Care Eligibility and Enrollment link.
After you submit your retirement application (Form TRS 30) to TRS and it is processed, you’ll receive a TRS-Care enrollment packet that includes an application for TRS-Care (Form TRS 700A). If you want to enroll in TRS-Care, you should complete the application and send it back to TRS.
If you don’t enroll at that time, you may not enter the program unless you experience one of two “special enrollment events.” These are listed in the TRS-Care Eligibility and Enrollment link. You can enroll in TRS-Care even if you were not enrolled in TRS-ActiveCare.
