As a member, regardless of your age or years of service credit, you may apply for disability retirement if you are mentally or physically disabled from the further performance of your duty. Review the following resources:

Request an estimate of retirement benefits by:
- Logging in to MyTRS and accessing this service under the Planning Tools tab, or
- Completing a Request for Estimate of Retirement Benefits (Form 18) and mailing or faxing it to TRS.
You can use MyTRS to help plan for retirement and keep track of your personal account.
The TRS medical board reviews information provided by you and your attending physician, along with clinical evidence to support your diagnosis.
The TRS Medical Board must certify your disability. In some cases, you may be certified for disability retirement, but an annual re-examination is required.
You will be entitled to a monthly retirement annuity that is paid for the lesser of the duration of your disability or the duration of your life. Learn more here:
