TEACHER RETIREMENT SYSTEM OF TEXAS TO HOST CORPUS CHRISTI HEALTH CARE TOWN HALL MEETING ON FEB. 12, 2014
CORPUS CHRISTI – Trustees and executives from the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) will appear at a Feb. 12 Health Care Town Hall Meeting in Corpus Christi for TRS members and retirees in the South Texas region.
The Corpus Christi meeting will take place from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. It will be held at the Education Service Center, Region 2, Room 3-23, located at 209 N. Water St., Corpus Christi, TX 78401. The meeting will also be webcast live and shown later on demand from the TRS website at www.trs.state.tx.us. Viewers will be able to email questions to the panel during the webcast. Instructions will be provided on the website. Meeting topics will include:
- Issues facing the TRS-Care and TRS-ActiveCare health care programs.
“TRS health care programs face a number of challenging issues including funding and sustainability, and we feel it is important to both update our members as well as listen to their ideas regarding possible solutions,” said TRS Executive Director Brian Guthrie. “These meetings offer an opportunity to do that in person and to hear what is on our members’ minds.”
The town hall meeting is part of a three-day board meeting on Feb. 12-14. TRS members, retirees and the public are encouraged to attend. The board meeting agenda and other materials can be found on the TRS website.
Members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and other educational associations helped publicize the event and are expected to attend.
The Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is one of the largest retirement systems in the nation. The system's core mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of Texas educators by prudently investing and managing trust assets and delivering member benefits. As of August 31, 2024, TRS pension fund had a market value of $209.5 billion.
