Annual Enrollment is Almost Here!

The Pulse, June 2021

It’s almost time for you to choose your health plan for 2021-22! Check with your district for the specific dates of when you can enroll.

Remember: if you don’t choose a new plan for 2021-22, you’ll automatically be re-enrolled in the plan you had last year.

TRS-ActiveCare Plans Focus on Wellness

If there’s one thing last year taught us, it’s that nothing is more important than getting and staying healthy. TRS-ActiveCare plans include a range of integrated wellness programs and tools to help you get and stay healthy and make the most of your coverage.

Features include:

  • $0 one-on-one wellness coaching with dieticians, nutritionists, and other health experts, including:
    • weight-loss programs
    • help with conditions like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stress, and quitting smoking
  • 100% covered preventive care
  • a fitness program with memberships as low as $19 per month and brand-new online options
  • broad provider networks
  • mental health benefits, including virtual therapy appointments
  • Ovia Health® for fertility planning, prenatal care, pregnancy, and parenting support
  • Personal Health Guides who act as your health advocates – available through phone or chat, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • specialty drug coverage
  • the 24/7 Nurseline, an always-open option to talk to nurses about minor health issues and get help figuring out the best option for care

Rates for 2021-22 TRS-ActiveCare Plans

This year, TRS-ActiveCare premiums were impacted by COVID-19. Premiums were also affected by coverage being offered alongside TRS-ActiveCare.

These plans often exclude key benefits and attract lower-cost participants, while participants with greater health needs remain in TRS-ActiveCare. This dynamic drives up health care costs for everyone in TRS-ActiveCare.

Competing plans sometimes have lower premiums but can also put you at risk because they offer limited coverage.

For example, these plans have fewer providers to choose from and may not include wellness benefits or cover specialty drugs. Many who choose these plans may find themselves without the coverage they need and with unplanned out-of-pocket costs.

TRS continues to work hard to provide plans with extensive benefits for a great value. TRS kept increases for employee-only coverage below $35 for every plan for the coming plan year, despite the challenges.
