This notice is primarily intended to provide TRS members or beneficiaries with information about processing time frames for any benefit for which they have applied.

Death Benefits
Once a death is reported, a notification letter will be sent to the beneficiary on record. Most benefits are processed within 31 days from the date TRS receives the following information:
- Retired Member Deaths:
- Copy of the death certificate
- Properly completed death claim form(s)
- Active Member Deaths:
- TRS will request information from the member’s last employer(s)
- Copy of the death certificate
- Properly completed death claim form(s)
Retirement Benefits
Most retirement benefits are processed within 45 days after TRS receives all required information including:
- Properly completed application(s) and required forms
- TRS will contact your employer(s) near your retirement date to confirm your termination date and final salary information
If you terminate employment in May and receive your final pay in August (balance of contract payments throughout the summer months), you will likely receive your first retirement benefit payment in October.
