A retirement certification should be completed once the final salary and member contribution have been paid to the member. In this case, you would not complete the certification until August after the final eligible compensation has been paid to the member. These amounts are used in the member’s benefit calculation, and it is critical that the information provided on the certification is correct.
The member's retirement cannot be finalized until after the final pay has been reported to TRS via the Regular Payroll report. This means that completing the retirement certification in the month the final pay is issued, should not delay their retirement. There would also be no benefit in submitting the Retirement Certification prior to the final eligible compensation being reported since it does not speed up the process and could actually delay the members retirement since TRS would need to verify additional information with the employer.
You are receiving this certification because the employment was never closed with an ED90 termination record on the TRS system. Please complete the Retirement Certification based on the last year worked at your RE. ED90 records must be submitted by REs anytime an employee terminates all employment, regardless of the termination reason.
Please open the retirement certification and scroll down to the Comments section. TRS will provide a note on why the certification was added back to the worklist. Once you review the note from TRS, please complete the retirement certification with the updated information requested.
REs are required to complete the retirement certification even if the last position held was not eligible for TRS membership. To provide the final report month to TRS, after completing the retirement certification, please submit and post an ED90 termination record for the employee. The ED90 must complete the termination date and final report month. The final report month should be the last month that the employee will be included on the Regular Payroll report.
The Retirement Certification is only sent out to REs once the following conditions are met:
- TRS has processed the member's retirement application AND
2. The member's chosen retirement date has passed. (Please remember that all retirement dates are the end of the month)
Once both conditions have been met the RE should receive an email notification that a worklist item has been added in the RE Portal for their completion.

This error means that there are days reported for a report month after the termination date entered. Use the View Employee Information screen to view the posted RP transactions for your RE. Review to see if there are any days/hours reported as worked in a month after the termination date. If there are incorrect days/hours worked reported, please submit an RP 25 to remove the days/hours. Allow it to post, then submit the certification. If you continue to receive this error or the member worked after their termination date, please reach out to your RE coach.
Please contact your RE Coach via email. Include the member's full name and a brief explanation of what needs to be updated. Your coach will then request a new Retirement Certification be sent.
