TRS made positive changes to TRS-Care Medicare Advantage by reducing premiums for retirees. A healthy TRS-Care fund balance, recent federal Medicare changes, and TRS' careful management of the plan allowed for this change.
To allow retirees to return to TRS-Care Medicare Advantage with lower premiums, TRS will offer a Limited-Time Enrollment Opportunity.
This opportunity is available to Medicare-eligible retirees or surviving spouses aged 65 or older if:
- You were eligible for TRS-Care benefit programs when you retired, even if you didn't enroll.
- You were previously enrolled in TRS-Care and terminated coverage.
- You're a surviving spouse and/or dependent of a deceased TRS-Care-eligible retiree.
You can enroll through March 31, 2026. You may also add your eligible dependents when you enroll.
Under this opportunity, your TRS-Care coverage effective date will be the first day of the following month TRS gets your completed and approved application, but no sooner than Jan. 1, 2025. This is a one-time opportunity.
