El Paso Regional Office FAQs

Since customer service needs at TRS are increasing alongside the growth of our membership, TRS has continuously been exploring opportunities to expand our member service delivery options. We recognize that traveling to Austin may be inconvenient depending on your location and that our statewide events may not always fit with your schedule. The office will allow us to better serve our members in a different area and reach them closer to where they live.

We conducted thorough research and examined many factors to choose the initial location for a regional office. This research included assessing the following: Member population across the state and the regions that have the highest number of members eligible for retirement over the upcoming years. Member interest in TRS opening a regional office. Member likelihood of visiting or scheduling an appointment at a TRS regional office. Travel considerations, such as distance to TRS Austin Headquarters.

TRS started exploring the idea and holding discussions with stakeholders in 2019. In January 2020, TRS surveyed our active members and retirees to better understand their preferences, and 85% were in favor of counseling offices in strategic locations across Texas. If data suggests the office is valuable to TRS members, TRS will consider establishing additional regional offices during the 2024-25 biennium.
