Announcement: Important Reminder for Medicare Applicants Transitioning to TRS-Care Medicare Advantage

The Pulse
April 2025

We strongly encourage anyone transitioning to TRS-Care Medicare Advantage to apply for Medicare earlier than usual to avoid delays in the enrollment process.

Remember, you must enroll in Medicare to join TRS-Care Medicare Advantage.

Key Points to Remember:

  • Apply Early: To avoid delays, please try to submit your Medicare application at least six months before you turn 65.

  • Plan Ahead: Ensure you have all necessary documents and information ready to expedite your application.

When you enroll in Medicare, you’ll get a red, white and blue Medicare card. Once you get your ID Card from Medicare, you need to provide your Medicare ID Number (otherwise known as your MBI) to TRS. TRS will then initiate your enrollment into TRS-Care Medicare Advantage and send you welcome materials.

Give TRS your Medicare number to enroll in TRS-Care Medicare Advantage!

When you enroll in Medicare, you should sign up for:

  • Medicare Part A (Hospitalization) — but only if you can get it for free. TRS-Care Medicare Advantage does not require you to enroll in Medicare Part A. But if you can get Part A at no cost, we recommend signing up for it.

  • Medicare Part B (Doctor Visits) is required. You can’t enroll in TRS-Care Medicare Advantage without Medicare Part B. Everyone is eligible for Part B.

For more information on how to apply for Medicare, please visit the official Medicare website or contact the Social Security Administration.
