TRS-Care Medicare Advantage Participants Can Continue to See Methodist Hospital

We work to ensure our participants have access to a broad network of high-quality providers and coverage that meets their needs. With the announcement that the TRS-Care Medicare Advantage insurer will change to UnitedHealthcare on Jan. 1, 2021, we have received questions from retirees about whether Houston Methodist Hospital will be in UHC's network.

We have confirmed with Methodist Hospital that they will continue to see UHC Group Medicare Advantage participants, including TRS-Care Medicare Advantage participants.

The statement on the hospital’s website reads: “Medicare Advantage group plans are not affected by this termination.” We want TRS-Care participants to know that we offer a Group Medicare Advantage PPO that has the same benefits whether you are in or out-of-network. The plan is convenient and flexible so Medicare Advantage participants can go to any doctor they choose as long they accept Medicare and agree to bill UnitedHealthcare.

Houston Methodist Hospital states in its online FAQ,:  “We don’t want you to be surprised by medical bills. United patients can also use Houston Methodist facilities if your plan allows for out-of-network benefits.” TRS-Care Medicare Advantage offers out-of-network benefits.
