Comparing TRS-Care Medicare Advantage to Other Medicare Plans

Make an Informed Choice about Your Medicare Coverage

TRS designed TRS-Care Medicare Advantage® to give you valuable coverage at a competitive price. You should carefully consider any decisions you make about your health benefits because it will impact your expenses.

Considerations

Your monthly premium is part of what you need to consider, but it's not the only thing.

Low premiums usually mean higher costs elsewhere. Paying more up-front through your premium means you may have a lower deductible and affordable copays. You pay less when you use health care, making costs more predictable.

Zero-dollar premiums might mean:

  • fewer benefits or a higher annual deductible
  • higher coinsurance or copays
  • bigger maximum out-of-pocket
  • higher rate for hospital stays.

And look carefully at the prescription plan, including what coinsurance and copays you must pay to get your prescriptions. Make sure your plan covers drugs you currently take and that the plan you choose covers specialty medications.

Why Consider TRS-Care Medicare Advantage?

  • No Age-Related Premium Increases: Your rate will never change as you get older.
  • Low Copays: Access the care you need without worrying about high out-of-pocket costs. Our plan offers low copays for doctor visits, prescriptions, and hospital visits.
  • Fixed Copays for Prescription Drugs: Know exactly what you'll pay for your medications with set copays, making it easier to manage your health care budget.
  • Part D Coverage Included: Your monthly premium includes TRS-Care Medicare Rx at no extra charge, ensuring you have the prescription coverage you need.
  • Extra Benefits and Preventive Care at No Extra Cost: Stay on top of your health with annual checkups, screenings, and wellness programs. You also have access to services such as free rides to the doctor or pharmacy and $40 every three months to buy over-the-counter items. See more information on added benefits.
  • Low Maximum Out-of-Pocket Amounts: You pay less overall and your plan protects you from high cost medical charges.

Ask Your Agent to Go Through This Checklist

If you’re thinking about an individual Medicare plan outside TRS-Care, ask your agent these key questions:

Ask how your premiums will increase if you enroll in a plan outside TRS-Care. Some individual plan premiums increase each year along with your age, so a lower premium this year doesn’t mean lower premiums in the future.

TRS-Care Medicare Advantage has low doctor visit copays, a low inpatient hospital admission copay, and low maximum out-of-pocket costs. Although the monthly premium may be higher than some plans, you’ll benefit from more predictable costs when you get medical care. The deductible does not apply to copays for primary care, urgent care, or emergency room visits, and you have a low, $5 copay to see your primary care doctor.

TRS-Care Medicare Advantage offers a large, nationwide network of doctors and hospitals. And if you need to go out of the network, you’ll still have coverage. Some individual Medicare plans lower their premiums by offering small networks of doctors and hospitals. They also keep premiums low by not covering medical services from out-of-network providers, except in emergencies.

Unlike many plans, TRS-Care Medicare Rx doesn’t have a separate additional premium for prescription drug coverage. That cost is included in the premium for TRS-Care Medicare Advantage.

With TRS-Care Medicare Rx, specialty and brand-name drugs are covered with a low copay. Many Medicare Part D plans require members to pay a percentage of the cost of these drugs, which can get very expensive.

With TRS-Care Medicare Advantage, you get $0 24 one-way trips every 12 months by van, sedan, or wheelchair accessible vehicle. Find a list of providers at www.uhcretiree.com/trs-caremar or call TRS-Care Medicare Advantage Customer Service at 866-347-9507, 7 a.m.–6 p.m. CT, Mon.–Fri.

TRS-Care Medicare Advantage allows you to pay one, single copay per hospital admission so you avoid stacking up copays for multiple days.

Maintain Medicare Part B

You must buy and maintain Medicare Part B to stay in TRS-Care. You risk losing all TRS-Care coverage if you don’t have Medicare Part B, which can result in significant out-of-pocket health care costs. If you can get Medicare Part A for free, you must enroll in it to stay in TRS-Care.
