Make an Informed Choice about Your Medicare Coverage
TRS designed TRS-Care Medicare Advantage® to give you valuable coverage at a competitive price. You should carefully consider any decisions you make about your health benefits because it will impact your expenses.
Considerations
Your monthly premium is part of what you need to consider, but it's not the only thing.
Low premiums usually mean higher costs elsewhere. Paying more up-front through your premium means you may have a lower deductible and affordable copays. You pay less when you use health care, making costs more predictable.
Zero-dollar premiums might mean:
- fewer benefits or a higher annual deductible
- higher coinsurance or copays
- bigger maximum out-of-pocket
- higher rate for hospital stays.
And look carefully at the prescription plan, including what coinsurance and copays you must pay to get your prescriptions. Make sure your plan covers drugs you currently take and that the plan you choose covers specialty medications.

Ask Your Agent to Go Through This Checklist
If you’re thinking about an individual Medicare plan outside TRS-Care, ask your agent these key questions:
Maintain Medicare Part B
You must buy and maintain Medicare Part B to stay in TRS-Care. You risk losing all TRS-Care coverage if you don’t have Medicare Part B, which can result in significant out-of-pocket health care costs. If you can get Medicare Part A for free, you must enroll in it to stay in TRS-Care.
